Arran In the Square

The festival will embody the spirit of the island and with the involvement of as many island based communities and groups as possible, the atmosphere will be highly interactive and will create a huge variety of experiences to allow the audience to taste, touch, smell, see and hear and truly understand what the region offers, enhancing the reputation of Scotland as a land of Food & Drink. The event will include elements such as the Arran Larder Restaurant, Farmers marketing & produce showcase, cook school, celebrity chef cookery demonstrations, Arran arts & crafts events, live entertainment & music.

Breton Chefs Meet Scottish Products

The Institut français d’Ecosse invites a group of 10 chefs-to-be cook students from the Lycée hôtelier of Dinard (the Chefs School) to Scotland with three of their teachers and a Brittany-based Chef from Monday 9 to Sunday 15 May to explore Scotland soils, meet Scottish producers and chefs and discover Scottish products.
This programme is part of the year of artistic exchanges between Brittany and Scotland instigated by the Institut francais d’Ecosse for 2011.
The week will be divided in 2 parts:

The education part from Monday 9th to Thursday 12th May The students will travel around Scotland to meet producers (cattle-breeders, wholesale fishmongers) and around Edinburgh to meet Scottish Chefs (Frederic Berkmiller, chef-boss of the two Escargot restaurants (recommended by the Michelin guide) and Tom Kitchin in his two one-Michelin-star restaurants: The Kitchin and Castle Terrace).

The public part on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th May. The students will render what they learnt and discovered during their week through the theme ‘Breton chefs meet Scottish products’. It will take the shape of a special Breton menu proposed by the chef of two French restaurants in Edinburgh (L’escargot blanc and L’escargot bleu) and the Breton students on Friday and Saturday (both for lunch and diner), and workshops/tastings events at the Institute on Saturday afternoon where the public will have the opportunity to meet the students and the French chef, discover Breton specialties and leave with the recipes!

Led Astray

Led Astray formed in 2006 with the goal of bringing audiences the spirit and presence of a live Led Zeppelin experience. Inspired by the live recordings of “How The West Was Won”, “The Song Remains The Same” and “The BBC Sessions” as well as the full repertoire of studio recordings.
Led Astray concerts in West Lothian over the last 4 years have all been sell out shows.

Marie Curie Zipslide and Treetop Challenge – Go Ape, Beecraigs

If you haven’t had a chance to visit the new Go Ape centre in Beecraigs Country Park, Linlithgow, now is the time to experience an amazing outdoor adventure while raising money for a great cause.
Scale 30 foot heights, zip slide through the forest and tackle high wire rope bridges on the 29th of May and raise money to help Marie Curie Nurses continue caring for people with cancer and other terminal illnesses.
It costs the charity £20 to provide 1 hour of nursing care, support and relief to patients and their families – £180 pays for a whole night’s care. All money raised stays locally so by paying a £10 registration fee and committing to raise a minimum of £100 you will be supporting the Nurses visiting West Lothian.
